Samuel John Shade, 69, died Saturday morning, December 8, 1984. Shade was appointed to Bath Town Council after the death of Sylvester Unger about six years ago. He was elected subsequently to two more terms. The last was to expire in June. He also was active in the Masonic Lodge and Berkeley Baptist Church. A resident of 413 North Washington Street, Shade was born September 14, 1915, in Morgan County. He was the son of the late Elwood and Gracie Cain Shade. He was a member of the Berkeley Baptist Church, and a member and past master of the Deford Lodge 88, A.F.&A.M. He retired in 1980 as a machinist in the Pennsylvania Glass San Corporation. He served as chairman of the town's water committee.
Surviving are his wife, Winona Hofe Shade, at home; a daughter, Joyce Shirley; a son, Wayne Shade, both of Berkeley Springs; two sister, Ethelene Nolan, North Carolina and Juanida Dick, Dallastown, Pa; two brothers, Clarence Shade, Reading, Pa., and Chester Shade, Prescott, Ariz., and two grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday, December 11, at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Ed Rogers officiating. Burial was in the Great Cacapon Cemetery.1

Shade for 56 years, who died in 1998.
He is survived by one son Frank E. Shade of Lewes with whom he resided for the last five years; one daughter, Wanida Black of Reading, PA; two sisters, Ethelene Nolan of Oak Orchard, DE, and Wanida Dick of York, PA; two grandchildren, Brandy Drewey and Tara Gerhard; four great grandchildren; and one step-grandson, Robert Shade. Funeral services were at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins - Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28, with Pastor Charlie Arnold officiating. Interment was at Millsboro Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.3

Chester "Chet" H. Shade, 63, of Fayetteville, Ark., former resident of Rogers, died Wednesday, August 25, 1993 at John McClellan Veterans Hospital in Little Rock. He was born October 26, 1929 at Berkeley Springs, the son of Elwood Steward and Clara Grace Cain Shade. He was a retired senior master sergeant in the United States Air Force, serving 27 years, where he was in ground radar and electronics warfare and aerospace control & warning systems. He was also assistant to commander on battle staff. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie Shade of the home; a son, Mike Shade of San Diego, Calif; two daughters, Beckie Schroeder of Houston, Texas, and Jillmarie Shade of Atlanta, Ga; two step-sons, Lee Halsell of Mountainburg, Ark. And Kent Halsell of Tulsa, Okla; a brother, Clarence Shade of Millsboro, Del; two sisters, Etheline Noland of Millsboro, Del., and Wanida Dick of Dallastown, Pa; one grandson; four step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 30 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church under the direction of Moore's Chapel, with Rev. George A. Gilbert, Jr. officiating. Burial was at National cemetery in Fayetteville with full military honors.2
