Joseph Franklin "Bub" Rankin, 60, died at his home in North Berkeley Wednesday morning at eleven o clock following a lengthy illness. For the past several months he had been confined to his bed. He was a son of the late William and Cordelia Fredman Rankin and had lived all of his life in Morgan County.
Surviving are his widow (Pearl) one son, Melvin, by a former marriage, four daughters, Mrs. Clarence Shade, Berkeley Springs; Marie, Iona and Eileen, at home; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Leighty, Berkeley Springs. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o clock in the Evangelical Church with the Rev. Lp. P. Markley of Felton, Pa., a former pastor here, officiating.3

Carl Warner Rankin of Berkeley Springs died June 13, at the VA Center, Martinsburg. Born August 31, 1920, he was the son of Lillie P. Rankin and the late Ed Rankin. He was employed by the F. Bowie, Smith and Son, lumber yard as a foreman in Baltimore, Md.
In addition to his mother, he survived by his wife, the former Margaret Kyne, one son, Carl W. Jr., of Warrenton, Va; three stepsons, Dayton J. Michael, Alexandria, Va., SSgt. Roger L. Michael, Holloman AFB, N.M., SP 4 Leroy Lynn Michael, Fort Bragg, N.C; two step-daughters, Margaret Ann Michael, at the home, and Sylvia Jean Michael Ray, both of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Vernon G. Rankin; two sisters, Mrs. LeEsta Anderson, Mrs. Rita Lea Lutman, all of Berkeley Springs; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Services were conducted Thursday, June 16 at the Johnson Funeral Home, with Lowell Williams of the Church of Christ of Berkeley Springs officiating, assisted by Rev. Rusty Coffey. Interment was in Greenway Cemetery.2

George Henry "Harry on the Ridge" Leighty, Jr. 80, of Berkeley Springs, died on Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at his home. Born February 21, 1922, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late George Henry, Sr. and Anna Elizabeth Casler Leighty. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs. He was a 1940 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School. He served as a sergeant with the U.s. Army Air Corps from December 1, 1942 until his honorable discharge on January 21, 1946. He served in the Western Pacific. He was a retired painter and mechanic from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, MD. He was a farmer and lifelong resident of Morgan County.
He is survived by four daughters, Donna Kay Leighty of Oklahoma City, OK, Candice Elizabeth Leighty-Felling of Lyons, OR, Sara Jane Buckley of West Palm Beach, FL and Vicki Marie Leighty of Stuart, FL; one brother, Woodrow Leighty of Carney's Point, NJ; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to hi parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Schafer. Memorial services were conducted on Monday March 11 with Rev. James L. McMahan officiating.2
