Wilkinson and the Rev. Robert Hardee officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery. Mr. Curtis was a Randolph County native and a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was president and chief executive officer for the Curtis Packing Co., having retired in 1972. He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are widow, Mrs. Beatrice Stafford Curtis; son John Randolph Curtis of Climax; brother, J. Norman Curtis and Douglas B. Curtis of Greensboro, and C. Marshall Curtis of Wallops Island, Va; two grandchildren.8

Mr. John Norman Curtis, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Moses Cone Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Forbis & Dick Funeral Home in Pleasant Garden. Interment will follow in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Curtis was born in Randolph County on April 13, 1919, to the late John and Lillie Mae Pugh Curtis. He was a graduate of Brevard College and later served as a trustee of the college. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp., serving during WW II. Mr. Curtis was owner and cattleman for Curtis Packing Co. for 30 years. He served two terms as president of Starmount Country Club and in the mid 70s he was the owner of Greensboro Generals Hockey Team. He was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church and a member of New Salem United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school. Mr. Curtis was an avid artist and writer. He loved golf and enjoyed teaching his grandsons the game. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward H. Curtis.
Surviving Mr. Curtis are his wife, Alta Anderson of the home; daughters, Sandra Curtis of Louisville, Ky., Catherine Curtis of Charlotte and Emilie Curtis Ivey of Knoxville, Tenn; brothers, C. Marshall Curtis and wife Mary of New Church, Va. and Douglas Curtis and wife Jane of Climax; grandchildren, Scott Grubbs, Andrew Grubbs, John Curtis, all of Greensboro; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Grubbs and Andrew Grubbs. Charles Marshall Curtis, 93, of New Church, VA formerly of Climax, NC passed away on December 28, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. Marshall was born in Climax, NC on February 20, 1921 to the late John and Lillie (Pugh) Curtis. He served in the US Navy as an Avenger of Pearl Harbor during WW II and was an aerographer's mate on the USS Carteret. He was at Iwo Jima and saw the flag being raised on Mount Suribachi. In 1960, he moved his family from NC to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, where he worked at NASA at Wallops Station as a mathematician. Marshall became head of the math department in 1963 until 1980 when he retired.
He was a member of Atlantic Methodist Church in Atlantic, VA.
Marshall is survived by four daughters, Pat Curtis Wahab and her husband John of Springfield, VA, Elaine Curtis Connell and her husband Mike of Wake Forest, NC, Mary Anne Daisey and her husband Tommy of Chincoteague Island, VA, Suzette "Suzie" Curtis Sockwell and her husband Ron of Burlington, NC; brother, Doug Curtis and his wife Jane of Climax, NC; four grandsons, Michael Connell and his wife Deborah and their five children of Wake Forest, NC, Teddy Daisey and his wife Sara and their three children of Chincoteague Island, VA, Preston Sockwell and his wife Hannah and their two children with one more on the way of Elon, NC, Griffin Sockwell of Burlington, NC; two granddaughters, Amy Tullous and her husband Todd and their three children of New Church, VA, Shannon Middleton and her husband Will of Lynchburg, VA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by father, John Alexander Curtis, mother, Lillie Pugh Curtis, wife, Mary Goforth Curtis and two brothers, Ed and Norman Curtis. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 2:00 pm at the Salyer Funeral Home, Chincoteague Island, VA with Rev. John Thorne, officiating. Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2014, 2 PM at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Climax, NC with the interment to follow in the church cemetery with full military honors and Rev. Ken Curtis will be officiating.5

Goforth; her daughter, Elaine Connell, and son-in-law, Mike Connell; her daughter, Mary Anne Daisey, and son-in-law Tommy Daisey; her daughter, Suzette Sockwell, and son in law, Ron Sockwell; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A brother, Marcus Goforth, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Curtis taught home economics in North Carolina and Chincoteague after graduating from Greensboro College in Greensboro, N.C.

A funeral service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Atlantic United Methodist Church in Atlantic and Tuesday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Climax, N.C., near Greensboro.2
