Effie Hope Curtis, Former Resident Here, Died Dec. 22nd [sic] Effie Hope Curtis, who resided here for twenty years, and clerked in the Hoover store and later the Myklebust Store, died at Colfax December 27 [sic]. Mrs. Curtis was a good salesman and was liked by all who knew her. She had many friends at Lacrosse who regret her passing. After leaving Lacrosse, Miss Curtis clerked in the Emerson Store in Colfax up to the time of her death. She came to Whitman County twenty?-four years ago from Morganton, North Carolina, where she taught school for three years and later worked in a department store in that city. She and her mother moved to Colfax four years ago. Through her twenty years of clerking in Lacrosse stores her one desire was to give kind and courteous service to the public and her unselfish endeavors endeared her to all who knew her. She had been a member of the Baptist church since her fifteenth birthday.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her mother, Mrs. Alice Curtis, Colfax; two brothers, E.J. Curtis of Colfax, and E.M. Curtis, Morganton, N.C; and sister Mrs. Tommy Gilland of Kingstree, South Carolina. Funeral services were held in Colfax, Sunday, December 24th, [sic] and burial was in the Colfax cemetery.8
