Thomas Clyde Oaks, 77, 125 Treadway Street, Elizabethton, died Saturday, January 6, 2001, at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Oaks was a native of Elk Park, N.C., living most of his life in Elizabethton. He was the son of the late Marion and Flossie Whitting Oaks and was also preceded in death by a brother, Casey Oaks, and two sisters, Cora Hicks and Sally Schaffer. Mr. Oaks was a member and elder of the Valley Forge Christian Church and was former co-owner of Tom and Fred's Garage. He was a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having received a Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn B. Oaks, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Patricia Oaks, Knoxville; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy Lee and Roy Huskins, Winston-Salem, N.C; five sisters, Burnette Hathaway, Betty Harrell, Nancy Cash and Johnnie Pinkard, all of Elizabethton, and Mary Ellen Parks, Johnson City; three grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Jason and Misty Oaks, Knoxville, John Thomas Oaks, New York City, N.Y., and Alan Huskins, Fort Lauderdale, Fla; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Angie and Patrick Phipps, Elizabethton; a great-granddaughter, Rachel Phipps, Elizabethton; a great-grandson, Caleb Oaks, Knoxville; and three sisters-in-law, Opal Street, Wilma and T.C. Colbaugh, all of Elizabethton, and Margaret and Fred Williams, Orlando, Fla. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

OAKS -- Funeral services for Thomas Clyde Oaks, 77, 125 Treadway Street, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, January 6, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, January 8, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Mr. Tommy Oaks, Mr. Clay Bailey and Mr. Dan Rutherford, ministers, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joel Crisp, Mrs. Gail Campbell and John Thomas Oaks. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from the Elders and Deacons of Valley Forge Christian Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Akers, Fred Broyles, Darrell Eller, Roy Simerly, Maynard Campbell and Conway Hopson. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.3
