Peter Clinton Yost, prominent Morgan county Republican, died Sunday afternoon in War Memorial Hospital where he was admitted Saturday. Born in Jacksburg, Ohio, August 21, 1888, son of Peter E. and Charlotte Manrod Yost, he was a pioneer canner, having operated a tomato cannery here for many years. He was also a farmer and a stock dealer. He was a former Morgan county sheriff and had served three terms as a member of the Morgan County Cort. Mr. Yost was a member of the Jr. OUAM and the Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church of which he was ordained an Elder on June 22, 1941.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nettie Pentoney Yost, whom he married in 1911; two daughters, Mrs. Ray Swaim, Berkeley Springs, and Mrs. Beatty Julien, Washington, D.C; two sons, Dr. C.P. Yost, West Virginia University, Morgantown, and Herbert Yost, Falls Church, Va., two brothers, Leonard Yost, Berkeley Springs and Charles Yost, Franklin, Ohio; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The body was removed from the Helsley Funeral Home to the Mt. Zion EUB Church, Spohrs Cross Roads, Wednesday for services at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. George H. Rector, retired Presbyterian minister of Elkins, formerly of Berkeley Springs, and O.B. Weber, Presbyterian layman. Burial was in the church cemetery. Jr. OUAM conducted memorial services at the funeral Tuesday night.2

He was retired after having been clerk at the Berkeley Springs Post Office for 17 years. Prior to this, he operated a grocery store in Berkeley Springs for seven years. He was a 53-year member of the Duckwall Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elba Yost; two sons, Phillip R. Swaim of Chesapeake, Va., and Andrew P. Swaim of Charles Town; one daughter, Mrs. H. E. Woody of Deerfield Beach, Fla; six grandchildren, two brothers, Mathias Swaim of Berkeley Springs and Woodrow Swaim of Washington, D.C., and two sisters, Mrs. My DeHaven and Mrs. Hazel Widmyer, both of Berkeley Springs. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 17, at the Johnson Funeral Home with Edwin Floyd officiating. Interment was in Duckwall Cemetery. Contributions in memory may be made to the War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or to the Morgan County Rescue Service.5

She was a member of Town &Country Homemakers of Berkeley Springs. She is survived by three children, Patsy Ann Woody, Crystal River, FL, Phillip Ray Swaim, Orlando, FL, Andrew Peter Swaim, Denver, NC; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Y. Julien, Berkeley Springs; one brother, Herbert P. Yost, Harrisonburg, VA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Leo Swaim, in December of 1975; her parents; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Swaim; one grandson; and one brother, Charles P. Yost. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 8 at the Berkeley Springs Church of Christ, 509 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Edwin Floyd officiating. Interment was in Duckwall Cemetery, Berkeley Springs. The Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, handled the arrangements.2

Joseph R. Stotler, 39, a veteran of World War II and an employee of the Postal Department in Washington, D.C., died January 29, in the Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md., after an illness of two weeks. He was born in Morgan county in 1915, the son of P.K. and Sadie Unger Stotler. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Ruth Yost; two brothers--Jennings and Elmo Stotler, of Washington. Funeral services were conducted on Monday at Bethesda with interment in the Veterans Cemetery there.4

She continued her education in Shepherd College and West Virginia University, graduating in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education. She taught in the Berkeley Springs junior and senior high schools for eight years.
In 1942 Ruth married Joseph Stotler, who served in World War II. In 1945 she moved to the Washington, D.C. area and taught in the Montgomery County, Maryland schools for twenty-four years until her retirement in 1969. She earned a Master's Degree at the University of Maryland and took additional work at the George Washington University teaching in Montgomery County.
Joseph Stotler died in 1954. Ruth was united in marriage to Beatty Julien in 1964. Ruth has been active in Red Cross volunteer work in Montgomery County and in Morgan County, receiving her recognition pin for twenty-five years of service in 1980.5

Pentoney was graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in 1977 and was an apprentice electrician student for Roy H. Davison and son of Fairfax, Va. He was a member of the Berkeley Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one brother, Shawn Eric Pentoney, at the home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar E. Pentoney at the home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar E. Pentoney, Sr., Berkeley Springs; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Alice Bosserman, Fairfax, Va. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, September 19 at the Baptist Church, Berkeley Springs, the Rev. James Motley and the Rev. James Holt officiated. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Spohrs Cross Roads in Morgan County. Arrangements were made by Helsley Funeral Home.1

Mrs. Carrie Maretta Grove, 80, wife of William C. Grove, died Friday morning, May 15, in Morgan County Warm memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for several days. A native of Morgan county, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Alice McBee Hovermale and for more than 60 years was a member of the Mt. Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church. Last December she and her husband celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Survivors, in addition to the husband, are-three children-Mrs. Bernard Miller, of Edmonston, Md., and Mrs. Paul Kesecker and Herbert Grove, both of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Callie Hovermale, of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Mrs. Clarence Werdebaugh, of Berkeley Springs, and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion Church at Spohrs Cross Roads Sunday at 3 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Arthur Grant. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included five grandchildren-William Grove, Deanie Kesecker, Leo Kesecker, Billy Journey and Donnie Miller, and a neighbor, Harold Hovermale.1

Surviving are two sons, Leo V. Kesecker and M. Dean Kesecker, both of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Mary Stock, Middleburg, PA and Evelyn Carney, Vero Beach, FL; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Viola Kesecker in 1996; two sisters and eight brothers. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday June 5 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Morgan County, with the Revs. Henry L. Fisher and Wayne Frum officiating. Interment was in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery, Morgan County. Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, handled the arrangements.7

Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hunter Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. H.H. Rowland, assisted by the Rev. Carroll Jay. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Spohrs Cross Roads.4
