ObitRobert W.'s obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 7 June 1927:

Robert W. NEWELL, 78, a highly respected resident of Athens, who lived alone and who had served for two terms as county assessor was found dead Tuesday morning by his neighbor, Mrs. Milo HARROLD who missed him when he did not do his morning chores and went into the home to investigate. Mrs. Harrold found Mr. Newell in his bedroom. It appeared as though he had just started to retire from the position of his body. Calling in the neighbors, Coroner Herbert ZIMMERMAN was notified to make an investigation. Death according to the coroner was caused by apoplexy which was super-induced by hardening of the arteries. It is thought Mr. Newell died shortly after 10 o’clock Monday evening as he had been at one of the Athens stores until 9:30. While at the store he remarked to several of his neighbors that he was feeling fine. Mr. Newell however had been under a doctor’s care for several months having suffered with arterio sclerosis. Mr. Newell was born on a farm near this city on July 27, 1848, the son of Samuel and Elizabeth NEWELL. He had lived in this county all of his life following the occupation of a farmer except for the eight years he served as county assessor. He was a Republican by politics. The deceased had been married three times, all of his wives preceding him in death. His wives’ maiden names were Elizabeth JOHNSON, Elizabeth MILLER and Emma CLEMMONS. The survivors are three children, Mrs. Nellie KEIM of near Green Oak, Ray [NEWELL] of this city and Manford [NEWELL] of South Bend. Funeral services will be held from the Athens United Brethren church at 2 p.m. Wednesday with burial in the Mt. Zion cemetery. Rev. James NIVEN will be in charge of the services. Mr. Newell was a member of the Methodist church at Omega and the Odd Fellows lodge.4

NoteB
Saturday, February 5, 1881
Oscar Johnson is one of the young "heart smashers" of which this community has not a few. . . Among his country flames he numbered Miss Mollie Blackburn, a charming young girl, who fell a victim to his sinful lusts. . . . his smiling countenance has not been seen in this community for several months. Recently the health of his father, who resides some distance in the country, was such as to alarm his friends, and the son who was out West, probably making new conquests, was sent for . . . he obeyed. . . . Sheriff Butler and his deputy, Wallace, made the trip to the Johnson farm on Monday, through the snow storm and had but little difficulty in capturing the youth who had so successfully evaded justice and flew from the girl who loved him not wisely but too well.

Saturday, February 26, 1881
Oscar Johnson, the young man whom Mollie Blackburn had been looking for and finally was captured by the Sheriff, compromised his troubles with that lady yesterday by the payment of $500.5

ObitOscar Franklin's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 1 November 1912:

Oscar JOHNSON, who is a well known former resident of this city, died this morning at 2 ’clock at the home of his brother-in-law, Henry WAGNER, near Athens, after an illness from tuberculosis, which has extended over a period of the past several years. Mr. Johnson, who, at the time of his leaving Rochester with his family for Oklahoma about ten years ago, was prominent in the circles of this city, having occupied the position of justice of the peace for several years. After moving to that state the family suffered from tuberculosis and finally they returned to this county. For some time Mr. Johnson has been living at the Wagner home and in the past few weeks his condition grew gradually worse until the end. Besides the relatives he leaves a large number of friends who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved family. The funeral will be held at the Wagner home Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, and burial will be made in the Athens cemetery.10
