Surviving are three sons, Jesse W. Waugh and Ray E. Waugh, both of Berkeley Springs, and Fred W. Waugh, Oak Hill, two daughters, Mrs. Helen Orr and Mrs. Virginia Stuter, both of Berkeley Springs; five sisters, Mrs. Agness Barker, Mrs. Margaret Gray, Mrs. Mary Harden, all of Berkeley Springs, Mrs. Irene Lohfink, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mrs. Grace Moon, of Martinsburg; 19 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. One son, Jack, preceded her in death in 1935. Arrangements were made by the Hunter Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs for services Wednesday, November 176, at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Edwin Floyd, with burial in Greenway Cemetery.2

She is survived by one sister, Helen Waugh Orr of Berkeley Springs; one brother Ray E. Waugh of Berkeley Springs and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred W. Waugh, Jack T. Waugh and Jesse W. Waugh. Services were held Tuesday, August 20 at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 36 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Clarence McDowell officiating. Burial was in Greenway Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, MID-Atlantic Affiliate, Memorials and Tributes Processing Center, P.O. He is survived by one daughter, Cosetta Waugh Ingram of Oak Hill; one son, Fred Waugh Jr. of Moorefield; one stepson, Roger Long of Florida; two granddaughters, Leanna Ingram of Oak Hill and Carrie Hollman of North Carolina; one great granddaughter; one great grandson; one brother, Ray E. Waugh; two sisters, Virginia Stuter and Helen Orr, all of Berkeley Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held December 20 at 1 p.m. at the Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill. Bill Menefee was the speaker. Honor guard of Oak Hill conducted military services at Highland Memorial Park in Oak Hill. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund and Diabetic Association.5

He was rushed to Memorial Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. Born in Morgan County May6, 1897, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna Waugh and was a veteran of the World War I.
Survivors include: his wife, the former Miss Elsie Hoyle; four sons-Sylvester Waugh, Glenwood Waugh, Leroy Waugh and Philip Waugh, all of Berkeley Springs; two daughters-Mrs. Pauline Sanders of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Helen Weber, of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Cecil Waugh of Berkeley Springs, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m., from the Hunter Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul J. Slonaker, pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church, officiating. Burial was in Greenway Cemetery.7

Mr. Waugh is survived by four sons, Dodson S. Waugh and Charles Waugh, both of Berkeley Springs; Donald K. Waugh of Charles Town, and Jimmy C. Waugh of Boca Rica, Fla; three daughters, Mrs. Caroline B. Gibson and Mrs. Doris Jean Grove, both of Oakland, Md., and Mrs. Nancy V. Garner, Rockville, Md; 70 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Services were Sunday, July 28 with the Rev. Thomas W. Jackson officiating. Burial was in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs. Arrangements were made by Hunter Funeral Home.4

Surviving are four sons-Sylvester, Glen, Leroy, and Phillip Waugh, all of Berkeley Springs; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Weber, Berkeley Springs; Mrs. Pauline Sanders, Baltimore, Md; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Hunter Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs with interment in Greenway Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wayne Weber, Thurman Waugh, Randy Waugh, Douglas Waugh, Mark Waugh and Charles Diehl.3

She had worked as a knitting machine operator in the garment industry and was a homemaker in recent years. She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter #1311, Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by two brothers, Glen Waugh and Leroy Waugh, both of Berkeley Springs, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry H. Sanders, one sister, Helen Weber, two brothers, Sylvester Waugh and Phillip Waugh and an infant son. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor William C. Swope officiating. Interment was in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.3

Sylvester Thurman "Bud" Waugh, 78, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died on Friday, July 20, 2001 at his home. Born June 5, 1923 in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Gilbert Oliver and Laura Elsie Hoyle Waugh. He was of the Protestant faith.
He attended the Annex School in Berkeley Springs. He served as a Technician Fifth Grade in the U.S. Army, 341st Quartermaster Truck Company from April 17, 1943 until December 8, 1945. He was granted the title of "Shellback," having crossed the "0" latitude twice. He served in Central Burma and in the India Burma Campaign and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Unit Award, World War Victory Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon. He retired in 1986 after 40 years of service as a heavy equipment operator with U.S. Silica in Berkeley Springs. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483, Risinger-Stotler V.F.W. Post #4019, Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4433 and the Fur, Fin and Feather Hunting Club, all in Berkeley Springs. He is survived by one daughter, Carol Ann Marshall of Berkeley Springs; three sons, Thurman B. "Buddy" Waugh of Hancock, MD, Randy Lee Waugh of Berkeley Springs and Jeffrey B. Waugh of Martinsburg, WV; one sister, Pauline Sanders of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Glen Waugh and LeRoy "Pee Wee" Waugh, both of Berkeley Springs; 14 grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Regina Flowers Waugh on December 18, 1991; two sisters, Helen Weber and Juanita Waugh; one brother, Philip Waugh and one grandson, William Keith Crosen.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 23 at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs. Interment with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard was in Greenway Cemetery.

Phillip E. Waugh was killed Friday, June 22, while working at Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation near Berkeley Springs. The 42 year old Berkeley Springs resident was fatally injured about 5:00 p.m. when he was caught in a conveyer belt. Mr. Waugh had worked at the glass sand mine for eleven years. The accident was investigated by West Virginia State Police and by the federal Mine Safety & Health Administration.
Phillip Eugene Waugh was born in Morgan County on April 30, 1937. He was the son of the late Gilbert Oliver and Laura Elsie Hoyle Waugh. He was a member of the American Legion Webster B. Harrison Post No. 26 of Hancock. He is survived by his wife, Erma Rosetta (Bishop) Waugh of Berkeley Springs; two children, John Gilbert Waugh and Cynthia Rose Waugh, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Sanders and Mrs. Helen Weber, both of Berkeley Springs; three brothers, all from Berkeley Springs, Glen Waugh, Leroy Waugh and Sylvester Waugh. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 25 at the Hunter Funeral Home and conducted by Rev. Kenneth Dyar with interment at Greenway Cemetery. Military rites were by members of Webster B. Harrison Post 126, Hancock, and Alderton-Dawson Post 60, Berkeley Springs.2

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. William Swope, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 20 at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs. Interment will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Wednesday, February 19, at the funeral home, which will be open from 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday.1

James R. Ruppenthal, 32, died Thursday, November 28, in Memorial Hospital, Winchester, Va., from injuries received when his car collided with a tractor-trailer early that morning on Route 522 several miles north of Winchester. An employee of Baker VA Hospital near Martinsburg, he had driven a fellow employee to the latter's home in Winchester and was enroute to his home here when the accident occurred about 1 a.m. According to Ruppenthal's father, it was reported that another driver, who passed him on the road just before the accident said Ruppenthal seemed to be slumping over the steering wheel. His father thinks he may have had a heart attack. A son of Charles and Mina Duckwall Ruppenthal, he was born in Berkeley Springs May 26, 1925. He made his home with his parents. He was a veteran of World War II, having seen service in Europe. He also was a member of First E.U.B. Church, here.
Besides his parents, survivors include a daughter, Cynthia, at home; two brothers, Augusta, Hancock, Md., and Ralph, Hagerstown, and his grandmother, Mrs. Emmaline Duckwall, Berkeley Springs. Services were held at First E.U.B. Church Saturday with the Rev. Paul J. Slonaker, pastor and the Rev. Dr. E.T. Clark of Winchester Baptist Church, and Dr. Henry H. Rowland, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Interment was in Greenway Cemetery.3

Mrs. Nellie Viola Waugh, formerly of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday evening in General Hospital, Washington. Born in Morgan county 53 years ago, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Adams. She had resided in Washington for the past 14 years.
Surviving are her husband, Cecil Waugh, Berkeley Springs; five sons-Billy G., Washington; Jimmy C., New Milford, Pa; Dodson, Charles and Donald, Berkeley Springs; four daughters, Mrs. Robert Wills, Berkeley Springs; Mrs. Willard Gibson, Mrs. Albert Rivers, Washington; Doris Waugh of Crownsville, Md; sister, Mrs. Edna Bohrer, Berkeley Springs; and 13 grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hunter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Slonaker, pastor of First E.U.B. Church, officiating. Burial was in Greenway Cemetery.2
