Civil War Veteran Dead. John E. Curtis, age 85, passed to his reward Aug. 29, at his home in Austin. Mr. Curtis was born and reared in Clark County and has lived in adjoining counties thereafter. He enlisted in the Civil War when but 17 years of age, served in Co. H - 58th Ind. Infantry. He was with Sherman in his march to the sea. He is survived by the widow, Kathryn Jane, and by six children by a previous marriage. W. E. Curtis and Flora E. Trobaugh of Indianapolis, Anna Farr, Edinburg, Rose Whittinghill, Dayton, Ohio, Bessie Beamer, Marysville, Ohio, Laura Weir, Albambra, Calif. Funeral services were at the Austin M. E. Church, Wednesday Aug. 31, in charge of the American Legion - Burial was at Crothersville Cemetery.2
