She was born in Posey County on April 5, 1906, the daughter of Raymond Curtis and Ethel Reed Curtis. Her husband, John Gwaltney, preceded her in death. She is survived by three nephews, Charles Curtis of Poseyville, Donald Curtis of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Ron Bookstatler of Willington, Ill. Three nieces also survive, Norma Cook of Momense, Ill., Dorothy Resseguie of Evansville, and Susan McCord of Mount Vernon. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Norvell Funeral Home with Rev. Dallas Robinson officiating. Burial was in Black Cemetery.6

She is survived by one daughter, Juanita June Parson Hargrove of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Parson; second husband, Dalton Curtis; one daughter, Norma Jean Curtis; one brother, Hayward Jackson; and two sisters, Faye Jackson and Goldie Jackson.
Funeral service was Friday, Feb. 26 at the Austin-Stendeback Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Tabor officiating. Burial was in Black Cemetery.8

She was preceded in death by her father on June 14, 1956, her mother on October 4, 1987, her husband on October 30, 1998, her son, Francis Ricketts, on January 11, 1992, and her brother, Herdis Curtis, on July 28, 1981. Surviving are her three children; her son, Norris Ricketts and his wife, Gayle, of Evansville; and her two daughters, Wilma King and her husband, Charlie, and Jayne Edward and her husband, Glenn, all of Mount Vernon, Indiana. Also surviving are her nine grandchildren, Todd King, Curtis King, Tim Ricketts, Tony Ricketts, Marissa Edward, Mesha Ricketts, Shane Ricketts, Jesse Brown, and Charles Brown; her eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, January 12, 2007, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Tom Buffington officiating and burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery.2

Charles R. Curtis, 90, of Doyline, LA. died at Promise Hospital of Bossier City, Dec. 5, 2008, following a lengthy illness. Curtis was born in Mount Vernon on Jan. 20, 1918. After entering the United States Air Force, he rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer W-4, serving in WWII in Europe and in the Vietnam War. After he retired, he moved to Doyline, La. where he lived until his death. He was a mason for 50 years. He was a champion for disadvantaged young people and a "pushover" for all animals, especially dogs and cats. An avid golfer, he continued to play until he was into his eighties. He loved music and sang in the church choir. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
Curtis was preceded in death by his daughter, Geraldine Elizabeth Curtis, his parents, Katie and Wilford Curtis, and a brother Eugene Curtis. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Elizabeth Willis Curtis and son and daughter-in-law, Charles Russell Curtis (Rusty) and Laura Sealy Curtis of Shreveport, La., sisters, Kathy Raab and Geraldine McFadden of Mount Vernon, Barbara Nell Curtis of Evansville, Elnora Martinelli of Fort Collins, Colo., and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services was Tuesday Dec. 9, 2008 at Doyline United Methodist Church with Rev. William Sewell officiating. Burial was at Doyline Cemetery with full military rites. A special thanks to his niece Norrie Morgan who cared for him along with his sister Saundra.2
