Ruth Curtis, January 15, 1907 - April 12, 2005
Ruth W. Curtis, 98, Indianapolis, died at 11:25 a.m. on April 12, 2005, at Clarian West Medical Center in Avon. The daughter of the late Charles Austin and Nota Almeta (Wibel) Wampler, she was born Jan. 15, 1907, in Stilesville, Ind. She was the widow of Hugh Curtis, whom she married Aug. 29, 1931. Curtis retired in 1970, following four years of teaching near Gosport and 26 years teaching first and second grade in Monrovia. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mooresville and the Cheermakers Church. She was a 1925 graduate of Gosport High School and attended Indiana University. She received her degree in education from Indiana State University. In 2003, she received the RTV 6 Leadership Award.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Jan Allen, Indianapolis, and Jeanie Allen, Atlanta, Ga. A daughter, Kay Allen; sister, Ester "Bean" Britton, and a brother, Richard Wampler, also preceded her in death. The service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Larry Floyd will officiate. Burial will be in Stilesville Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.3

He was retired from Piedmont Aviation after 37 years of service as an engine mechanic and inspector. Mr. Curtis was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church and also a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Florence of the home; three sons, David Brian Curtis and William Ashley Curtis, both of Winston-Salem, and Mark Smith Curtis and wife Alice of Asheville; three grandchildren, Joshua Aaron Curtis, Jeremy Michael Curtis, and Hanah Ashley Curtis; a sister, Annie Lee Orr of Candler; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 16 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Dr. Frank Grice officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park.
