Curtis and the late Amelia Ledford Curtis. He was of the Baptist Faith, life long resident of Cherokee County and a US Army Veteran serving in WWII. He was preceded in death by brothers, Forest Curtis and Manbers Curtis.
Survivors include: wife, Ruby Stratton Curtis, daughter, Mariyn Trull of Andrews, daughter, Linda Schaffer of Andrews, daughter, Nancy Curtis of Naples, Fla., daughter, Pam Mashburn of Andrews, daughter, Karen Cook of Brasstown, son, Michael Curtis of Andrews, son, Barry Curtis of Andrews, son, Steve Curtis of Andrews, son, Jeffery Curtis of Andrews, brother, Tom Curtis of Andrews, sister, Sue Queen of Andrews, sister, Claudia Jean Matheson, of Delaware, fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services were held March 15, at the Curtis Family Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by Andrews VFW Post 7620. The Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy was in charge of arrangements. Ira Cole, one of the county's prominent farmers and citizens, died at his home near Madisonville July 18, 1923, after an extended illness. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn because of his departure. He was 51 years, four months and fifteen days old. Besides his wife and four children he leaves three brothers and four sisters, and his mother, they being J.L. Cole, of Madisonville, J.N. Cole, Madisonville; G.E. Cole, Ducktown; Mrs. Ollis Thompson, Knoxville, Mrs. Sallie Cox, Knoxville; Mrs. Sarah Quinn, Lynch, Ky., Mrs. Flossie Shearer, Ducktown; and his mother, Mrs. John M. Cole, Ducktown and a host of relatives and friends who are saddened by his death. He left consoling evidence of a Christian life and faith to his loved ones. He professed faith in Christ in the early years of his life and united with the Grassy Creek Baptist Church about fourteen years ago; he later moved his membership to Rocky Springs Baptist Church, where it remained at the time of his death. The funeral service was conducted in the Baptist Church at Madisonville by Rev. W.A. Carroll and Rev. Wright Webb, and internment was in the Madisonville cemetery. He was buried with Masonic honors by the lodge at this place. He had attained to the higher degrees of Masonry.⁶

Jr., of Nashville, William E. of Knoxville, Parks of Cleveland, Ohio, Clays of Denver, Colorado; brothers, Paul Cole and Lloyd of Cleveland, Ohio and 19 grandchildren. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Rocky Springs Baptist Church, Rev. Eugene Akins and Rev. Chester Millsaps officiating. Burial in McClellan Cemetery. Biereley in charge.⁶

Curtis Cole, of Madisonville, passed away at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1996 in Sweetwater Hospital. He was 87. He was a retired school teacher from Cleveland, Ohio. Survivors: special friend, Elizabeth Marshall, of Madisonville; sister-in-law, Helen Coles, of Oberlin, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Funeral was 7:30 p.m., Thursday, in Kyker chapel. Interment is 11 a.m., today in Haven Hills Memorial Gardens. Kyker Funeral Home, Madisonville, in charge of arrangements.⁵
