Mrs. Hettie C. Curtis, one of the region’s senior citizens in length of residence, died early Monday at the Skyline Nursing Retreat at age 85. She had been in declining health since last July, but her condition had not been regarded as serious and her passing came suddenly.
Born on February 15, 1884, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Hall, she had resided in Fremont County for more than 80 years. Her family settled on Upper Beaver where they ranched for many years, later moving to Penrose. After her marriage to the late R.M. Curtis, the family resided in Four Mile. Mrs. Curtis was a member of the United Methodist Church, Harmony Rebecca Lodge, the Royal neighbors and the Four Mile Community Club.
Surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. Ann Dilley, John Hall and Mrs. Lexie Curtis, all of Canon City, and Amon Hall of Denver. Three granddaughters also survive: Mrs. Kathleen Dorries of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Rebecca Campbell of Casper, Wyo., and Miss Christine Curtis of Canon City. Her husband and two sons preceded her in death.6
